There are tens of millions of people that suffer from vein disease in the United States each year. Approximately 50 percent of those suffering from vein disease have a family history of varicose or spider veins. However, varicose veins and other vein conditions are very common and can affect anyone, regardless of your family’s medical history.
In this short guide, we are going to talk about some of the ways you can help prevent vein disease and keep your veins healthy before there is ever a problem in the first place. Read on for more details:
Prevent Vein Disease with These Lifestyle Boosters
One of the easiest things you can do to help prevent the onset of vein disease is to take a break from what you’re doing and get your legs moving. Here are a few other things that can help:
Get your weight in check
We’re sure you have heard this from your doctor before if you have any issues with your weight.
Obesity increases the amount of pressure being applied to your veins, so relieve that pressure by getting your body to a more healthy weight. There are hundreds of ways to do this. An easy method for bodies that are high in fat is a ketogenic diet.
Reducing your intake of sodium can also help decrease swelling from water retention or constipation.
Exercise on a regular basis
Regular exercise will improve the circulation of blood throughout the legs and the rest of the body. Blood that is flowing in a healthy manner will be less likely to cause issues. When blood is flowing the way it was intended, there will be less chance for clotting and damaging the beins.
It will also help you to lose some of the weight if that is another struggle for you. By increasing the muscle in your body, you will naturally burn off more calories than you would with less muscle tissue.
If you are looking for something easy to do, try doing some leg raises daily when you have time. They allow you to remain laying down. They are a low-impact and easy-to-do exercise. You will be raising your legs and getting them moving, which will be good for your blood flow.
Wear comfortable clothing as much as possible
Tight clothing may prohibit blood flow throughout your body, so wear loose-fitting clothes and reach for low heels or flats instead of your 6-inch stilettos.
High heels, as you know, can be uncomfortable. Less known is that they do not work your calf muscles the way lower heels or flats do. You are preventing healthy venous circulation if you are wearing them all the time.
Pamper your legs
There has never been a better excuse to kick up your legs at the end of a long day. In fact, you should try to raise your legs above your heart a few times a day to encourage good blood circulation.
It’s also a good rule of thumb to keep your legs moving, so switch positions often, get your legs moving every 30 minutes, uncross those legs when you are sitting down at work. Get up once in a while and move around. I know you have heard it 1000 times before, but it works. Just a little bit of movement can go a long way when it comes to vein health.
Talk about compression stockings
Talk to a vein care specialists to find out if compression stockings are right for you. They are often the first line of defense in lessening the symptoms associated with varicose veins. Compression stockings are meant to keep the right pressure in the area, keep your reins tight, and get your blood flowing healthily in the right direction.
