Today’s technology uses high-powered, specially designed lasers that are safe and allow our doctors to treat varicose and spider veins with minimal risks and very high success rates.

Laser vein treatment is a very good option for many of our patients and can be used on the larger, bulging varicose veins on the legs or even with the smaller spider veins on the legs, face, or other parts of the body.

Patient Considerations

The vast majority of patients with varicose veins can be treated using the minimally invasive laser vein treatment procedure. Our doctors will first complete a full assessment to ensure you are a good candidate for the procedure.

All patients undergoing the procedure must be able to walk, as this is essential after the procedure to minimize the risk of blood clots in other veins in the legs. Some medications may not be recommended before and after the procedure, and our doctors will carefully review any prescription or non-prescription medications you may be taking. Women who are pregnant are not good candidates during pregnancy but can be treated at a later date.

The Procedure

Unlike a surgical procedure where you would have to be hospitalized, this type of treatment is done right in our offices with no need for a hospital visit. The doctor will administer a local anesthesia to numb the area of the vein that is being treated.

A tiny incision is made to insert a very fine catheter, which contains a laser optic fiber. This is inserted up into the vein, and an ultrasound is used to allow the doctor to see the area being treated.

The laser is utilized as the catheter is being removed, and then it’s activated to cause the interior of the vein to be exposed to the heat of the laser, which you will not feel. This heat closes off the vein, preventing any further blood flow through the vessel.

Without any blood flow after the laser vein treatment, the vein collapses and breaks down. The cells are absorbed by the body just as your body recovers from any type of injury.

Recovery

The entire process will take less than an hour, and you will typically just need a small bandage to cover the tiny incisions. Our doctors will provide you with specific instructions to ensure you move around regularly and wear compression stockings or wraps for a few days to a couple of weeks after the procedure.

This is a simple, efficient and minimally invasive way to treat varicose veins. Our patients and our doctors highly recommend this treatment. With no downtime, it is a perfect option for virtually anyone suffering from varicose veins.
